Blueberries Abound

Posted by:

July brings blueberries in our neck of the woods, Northeast Ohio, as it does in many other areas of the United States.  We love blueberries every which way in pancakes, muffins, fruit salads and any other imaginable fashion.  But what is the best way to enjoy blueberries?  Well right off the bush of course!

Have you ever picked blueberries?  Well if you answered yes then you know the pure joy of a fresh picked blueberry bursting on your tongue.  If you answered no, what are you waiting for?  Get out there and start picking!

Don't know where to pick, we got you covered.  Head over to PickYourOwn.org.  Here you can find locations of pick your own farms throughout the country for blueberries and so much more.  Not sure what is in season in your area, never fear, they can tell you that as well.

We picked at lovely Baumhart Berry Farm in Vermilion, Ohio.  What a beautiful place to pick blueberries.  It was a wonderful summer breezy day full of sunshine.  The blueberries provided the happiness!

Blueberries grow on bushes.  They are not that hard to pick.  Look for the biggest and bluest and your good to go.  Picking with kids comes in handy because the adults can pick the top of the bushes and the kids can get into the nooks and crannies of the bottom of the bushes.  Perfectly ripe blueberries come right off the bush.

We picked over seven pounds of blueberries.  And what did we do with our new found joy and happiness?  Well we made pancakes, Lemon Honey Ricotta Pancakes with Blueberry Compote, of course.  I can't think of a better complement to sweet blueberries than tangy lemon. Yum!!
